Have you ever thought about the healing that goes on within your body? How does it happen? Can it be turned up or turned down? Do I heal differently than others?
If you haven’t thought about your healing processes, that’s OK… because we don’t have to. Our bodies create and direct, and run and replace every cell in the body whether we’re aware of it or not. There is an intelligent force that flows within us, from the spark of energy created at the moment of conception, and it is called our life force. Our life force is housed within our nervous system, or our expression system. Our nervous system is created within 21 days after conception. It is the only system completely encased in bone, and the only system that does not rebuild or regenerate… It is the system that allows us to experience and express life.
Each of us has health or is healthy, because we have the ability to adapt to our environment. Some of us have more of an ability to adapt than others, simply because of our environment. There are chemical, physical and emotional stressors the body integrates from the day we are born (or from conception, but that’s another topic ☺). When we experience and express life through our nervous system, integration happens by crying it out, pooping it out, peeing it out and sweating it out, coming through and out of our bodies. When we are unable to integrate, because our bodies have had too much thrown at it, we throw that energy to the spine, which is like the back of the mind, and save it for later. Our bodies then create, what we call in Chiropractic, subluxation, which means a process of being in less light. The potential energy that we save for later starts bogging down our systems or turning down our light within, creating a lesser ability to adapt and a greater chance of sickness, injury or lack of purpose (symptom creation- our body’s way of communicating).

How do we start the process of being in more light? We are mosaics… each of us experiences, integrates, expresses and heals differently and there is no one right path. I am a Doctor of Chiropractic or Chiropractor and have chosen to share this healing art with the masses. We are a separate and distinct profession that allows the body a second chance at integration, using different techniques to find the areas calling for attention within the spine, addressing those areas with hands or tools and allowing the body to use that potential energy in a new way… increasing the body’s ability to adapt and heal. Why is this important? When we are better able to adapt to our environment we are a better human being; physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. We are clear.

The bones protect the nerves that control everything within the body. As a Chiropractor, we use the bones as our landmarks, to help us listen to where the body wants an adjustment, and aid the body in movement through the adjustment. Movement is life. Without movement, we start breaking down in all ways. Through chiropractic, we allow movement within the spine to be restored, and allow the life force to move freely, communicating to the rest of the body, which restores our function and quality of life. Proper alignment of the spine provides balance and harmony within the body, from our cells and hormones, to our organs and muscles, to our minds and souls.
Dr. Lexi laughs...she is always laughing and full of joy.
Can you see the importance of incorporating this one healing art into your life? The populations you see the quickest response to an adjustment are the infants and children and the elderly. Infants and children have no hesitation or skepticism that burdens their bodies’ healing processes when released, and the elderly have so much decreased movement within their spines from a lifetime of experiences that when we restore even a tiny bit of movement to the spine, the changes are dramatic enough to help increase their ability to perform activities of daily living.
Within Our Birthing Home we serve primarily pregnant and postpartum women and infants and children. During pregnancy our bodies are finding a new normal, a new center of gravity. Our muscles and ligaments tighten up in areas we need them to be released, and move our bones into positions not optimal for the position of baby or birthing of baby, and creates discomfort in our own bodies. Chiropractic releases the bones, to open up our pelvises, to create more room for breathing, less pressure on the tummy and less heart burn, and allows baby the room to move into a head down position. Chiropractic releases the muscles, to allow the bones to stay in a better position, to create more relief in hip and low back discomfort, and allows baby the room to move into a head down position. Chiropractic releases the ligaments, that allow bones to move more freely, that allow baby to be held up like a hammock and let go when birthing time is upon us, and allows baby the room to move into a head down position (see a pattern? ☺). For example, our hip flexors, or psoas muscle, connect to the low back bones, come forward and lay over the uterus and connect to our leg, connecting torso to leg, on both sides of the body. It is the seat of fear and anxiety, so releasing this one muscle helps to create a calm mind environment, but also helps baby be free to move and wiggle down into a more optimal position, and decreases low back and hip discomfort in mama. When both mama and baby are in optimal position, physically and emotionally connected, it can create a shorter, easier labor and birthing time.

During postpartum our bodies are finding a new normal. Experiencing the most intense work of our lives creates huge change within the body… starting with our hormones. Chiropractic care during this most kept secret time of our lives allows for quicker and better hormone regulation, providing continuous support during a period that lasts a lifetime… we plan and prepare for pregnancy and birth, two events that only last moments in our lifetime, and forget that we are postpartum forever. Creating balance and harmony in a body that is changed forever allows you to heal faster, better, more purposefully and gives you the opportunity to feel like the goddess you’re meant to feel. As baby comes through you, muscles, ligaments and bones are contorted to bring forth life, it’s a big deal and a big job. How do you help your body recover from that experience? Not only are you affected, but also your new baby. Coming through you, via birth canal or cesarean, provides the most change in environment this baby will ever experience. If we experience and express life through our nervous system, and if birth is too much for us to integrate, creating less light within us, or bogging down our system, then our babies and children would benefit from being checked for subluxation too. Oh, and let’s not forget about our partners… the family unit has changed physically and emotionally, creating huge life changes that can affect our expression system. Balance and harmony within our own bodies creates balanced and harmonious families.

We are mosaics. There is no one right path when it comes to increasing our ability to adapt and heal. Chiropractic can meet you where you are in your journey, and help aid in taking you to the next level. It opens the door to other healing arts and other ways of life all while creating positive change within the body and empowering us to create change in our lives. Empowerment comes through education; when we know better, we do better, becoming an example to share with others. When we are our best example, we inspire something within those around us, cultivating the internal empowerment that allows for us to be our best version. Be an example. Inspire.  Empower. ~Doctora Lexi Meleski
